Classroom Behavior Management
Maintaining routines and use of consistent strategies to aid children in demonstrating appropriate behavior, or classroom behavior management, is central in supporting classroom safety and prosocial and academic behaviors. Effective classroom behavior management (CBM) is therefore the first step in promoting socioemotional learning. The initial few weeks of the Pre-K TIPS curriculum emphasize instruction and teacher training in research-supported classroom behavior strategies. These strategies are evidence-based and include the following: clear class rules, clear commands, routines for attention and transitions, 4 to 1 ratio of positive to negative interactions, behavior-specific praise, planned ignoring, and concise reprimands.
