Professional Development Training
A critical element in teaching socioemotional learning within a program is understanding what socioemotional learning is, why it is important, what environments foster growth in this type of learning, and, finally, how to teach it.
Project Pre-K TIPS research staff lead professional development presentations led for teachers. These presentations describe why preschool is an ideal time for children to learn key foundational socioemotional skills, such as impulse control and emotional and behavioral self-regulation, and how teachers play a central role in the development of these skills. Teachers are briefed on specific evidence-based strategies to help preschoolers develop socioemotional skills and are given opportunities to practice each of these strategies. The presentations conclude with an overview of the Pre-K TIPS research study. For more details on what is included in the professional development training, please refer to the following powerpoint presentation.
