Socioemotional Learning
Socioemotional learning (SEL) encompasses the efforts of children to build skills that support their self-awareness and perspective taking to understand their own emotions and have empathy for those of others. These skills facilitate healthy social relationships, regulated behavior, and allow children to make responsible choices and to set positive goals in an out of the school setting.
Project Pre-K TIPS includes eight weekly SEL modules to teach foundational skills. Each module has detailed instructions for how to teach each component and for how to facilitate an activity (e.g., interactive book reading or arts and crafts creation) to allow children opportunities to practice the skill that was taught. There are also several optional, supplemental activities included in every module that a teacher may choose to include if time or interest permits.
